Edward S. Curtis - Daughter of American Horse - Vintage Photogravure - Volume, 12.5 x 9.5 inches - Photographer Edward Curtis took this photogravure of American Horse’s daughter.American Horse was elected as an Ogalala chief one of the seven separate bands of the Teton Sioux. Each Band had its own head chief and they generally lived apart from the other bands. Chiefs would be elected at a general council of warriors and would stay on as chief until old age made them unfit for war, or they lost the wealth demanded for hospitality. Chiefs were influential and able to control their bands well. <br> <br>American Horse’s daughter would have lived comfortable and married well because of her wealth and status. She pictured here in a heavily adorned dress (probably quillwork) with her hair parted as is typical and braided. Photographer Edward S. Curtis took this photo in 1908 and it was printed on Japon Vellum paper.
