Volume, 12.5 x 9.5 inches
Vintage Photogravure
This photogravure was taken by Edward S. Curtis sin 1910 and depicts a typical Flathead lodge in the shade. Considered one of the Salishan tribes on the interior the Flatheads controlled a portion of Montana. A tribe that from the very beginning of their history was abundant in horses which would make them a target of attack for other tribes less fortunate. Flathead country was beautiful and mountainous. The Flatheads have no tradition of any lodges other than buffalo skin lodges.

Printed on Japon Vellum for Curtis’ volume VII of the North American Indian. This piece is now available for sale in our Aspen Art Gallery.
