Vintage Photogravure
In this photogravure by artist Edward S. Curtis the base of a tipi is shown giving an idea of what went into constructing a tipi. The number of poles determined the tipi size, a nice large tipi would have about 22 poles. They would eventually be covered with tanned buffalo hides.

This image was taken in 1907 by photographer Edward S. Curtis and was printed on Dutch Van Gelder. The Original photogravure is available for sale in our Aspen Art Gallery.
