Volume, 12.5 x 9.5 inches
This beautiful image photographed by Edward S. Curtis is of a Hidatsa mother with a small child strapped to her back. When a child was born the parents made a feast and a prominent figure, likely and elderly man or woman was called upon to name the infant. There was no ceremony connected with piercing the ears a job given to the grandmother. This Edward S. Curtis photo was printed in 1908 on Dutch Van Gelder and is for sale in our Aspen Art Gallery.
