Plate 223 A Camp of the Yakima
Portfolio, 18 x 22 inches
Plate 233 “A Camp of the Yakima” was taken by photographer Edward S. Curtis in 1909. The image depicts a small camp of Yakima tipis likely located in Washington as that was Yakima territory. The image must have been taken in the summer for that is when the tribe used tipi’s as lodging. In the winter months the walls would be banked with mud up to about 3 feet for warmth. This piece is printed on Japon Vellum and is available for sale in our Aspen Art Gallery.
