Description by Edward S. Curtis: A fortunate child picture, giving a good idea of the happy disposition of Indian children, and at the same time showing the baby carrier or holder.

This image displays a happy Apache baby tucked into a papoose which is a type of baby-carrier often used by Native Americans. This papoose is particularly interesting because of the small roof built onto it, protecting the child from the elements. The small baby is tied in by a few straps and tucked into a blanket or sheet.
