Plate 547 Walvia ("Medicine Root") Taos
Portfolio, 18 x 22 inches
Much like Curtis’ photogravure of “Willow” a handsome Taos man, Walvia represents the female characteristic type of a Taos woman. Almost in a trance, she stares out into the distance with light reflecting in her eyes. Long bangs frame her soft yet strong features and a draped white fabric surrounds her face neck and body. The Taos people were in intelligent and strong community, and created some of the most interesting structures still existing today from Native American Culture.
