This Edward S. Curtis photo depicts a Flathead warrior in elaborate war costume including headdress. He is drinking from a long horn and is standing underneath the shade of a large tree. Because of an abundance of horses, the Flathead were constantly being harassed by less fortunate tribes, much like the Nez Perce. This caused for great fighters within the tribe. The photo was taken for Edward Curtis’ volume VII for the North American Indian. Printed in 1910 on Dutch Van Gelder paper, the image is available for sale in our Aspen art gallery.
