Camp of the Root Diggers - Yakima
Volume, 9.5 x 12.5 inches
The Yakima live in tipis during the summer months with mat coverings. The winter dwellings were similar but much larger to shelter a number of related families. When Edward Curtis took this photograph in 1909 there were an estimated 2,679 Yakima in population. This image displays a few simple tipis among the trees as well as a few men on horseback. This image is available in our Aspen Art Gallery.
