This young Pomo girl is photographed in her bridal costume. Marriage in Pomo tribes was arranged by the parents who would set a date. On the date previously set friends and family would gather in the woman’s home for the ceremony. They would first live in the home of the bride’s family and after switch to the husband’s father’s home. They did not have any specific ceremony in the case of divorce.

This photogravure was taken by Edward Curtis in 1924 and is now on display in our Aspen Art Gallery.
