Edward S. Curtis - Plate 630 Assiniboin Hunter - Vintage Photogravure - Portfolio, 22 x 18 inches - Plate 630 of Edward S. Curtis’ North American Indian depicts a hunter in the woods accompanied by his hunting dogs, which would likely be half-wolf. Hunters in the Assiniboin and most tribes were essential for the survival of the people. They were the providers of food for the camps. This tribe may have been one of the poorer tribes, poorer tribes would have had less horses and would have to move on foot with dogs used as pack animals. This photo by Edward S. Curtis was printed on Japon Vellum paper in 1926 and is now available for sale in our Aspen Art Gallery.
