Plate 291 On Klickitat River
Portfolio, 18 x 22 inches
Edward Curtis captured many photographs of peaceful water with occupied canoes. In this image, two people are seen in very still water against the embankment. In the front of the boat is the oarsman, an unusual place to be propelling the boat. As the heavier figure it must be assumed that it is to bring down the front of the keel to balance the lighter rider in the back.
