Edward S. Curtis - Plate 252 Crossing the Lake - Kutenai - Vintage Photogravure - Portfolio, 18 x 22 inches - Crossing the Lake was taken by photographer Edward S. Curtis in 1910. A tranquil scene of a few Kutenai rowing a beautifully built canoe to cross the lake. The Kutenai lived in mountainous areas with many lakes and thus became excellent boaters. The boat would be formed over a framework of split-fir and made of pine or spruce bark. Edward Curtis printed this piece on Japon Vellum and is available for sale in our Aspen Art Gallery.
