The day was a succession of sudden squalls descending from the near-by Mountains. Just a moment before sunset, when all hope of accomplishing anything with a camera was abandoned, the sun broke through the clouds for an instant, and this striking picture was obtained. As described by Edward Curtis.

This image is mostly dark with a bit of light in the sky showing the dense cloud cover. There are three large tipis pictured and many Flathead peoples about. An ominous piece perhaps symbolic of the harsh life they endured.
