Caption Written by Edward Curtis: This pictures exceedingly well the typical Jicarilla women's dress: a cape of deerskin, beaded, a broad belt of black leather, a deerskin skirt, and the hair fastened at each side of the head with a large knot of yarn or cloth. - From Edward Curtis' North American Indian

This photograph was taken in 1904 and portrays a young Jicarilla girl. The girl is starting directly into the camera and is wearing beautiful dress and traditional Jewelry. She has almost a confused expression, perhaps heightened by the side lighting and looks to be about 10 years old. Her hair seems to be done up in the back and she is wearing modern looking hoop earrings.
