Plate 598 Gossiping - San Juan
Portfolio, 18 x 22 inches
In this photograph by Edward S. Curtis three young Native American girls gossip while gathering water. Squatted down by the riverside, the girls are surrounded by a desert landscape. Each is wearing a long robe-like garment and carries a large vessel to gather water in. They all seem to have the same haircut, typical of people from the San Juan. Edward Curtis took this photograph in 1905 and it is now displayed in our Aspen Art Gallery.
