This plate depicts a typical Taos woman, draped as commonly seen in a white cloth. Her face is almost entirely in shadow as she looks off into the distance. The lightly textured background may be that of an adobe structure in which the Taos people lived. The Taos Pueblo’s were divided into two very large adobe house blocks by the Rio Pueblo de Taos reaching five stories high in some places. These structures were similar to apartment buildings, housing all members of the community.

Our Aspen Art Gallery acquired this piece from The Library of the University of Tennessee Knoxville Tennesse.
