A powerful portrait of a chief in a feathered headdress. “Bread” is looking off into the distance with an almost stern look on his face. This photogravure by Edward Curtis is incredibly detailed shows even the finest line on the warriors face.

Description by Edward Curtis: Born 1863. A Mountain Crow, (he was a member of the) Whistle Water clan. First war experience under Young Wolf Calf, when the party captured a hundred horses from the Piegan. On another occasion, under Wet, he himself captured a horse from the Yanktonai. Married five times; "threw away" four wives; is the father of one child. Never fasted and never achieved an honor.
