Description by Edward S. Curtis: “A cold, cheerless day, when the party of Sioux, wrapped closely in their blankets, rode in stolid silence. An Original photogravure produced in Boston by John Andrew & Son. Taken by Curtis is 1905 in the Badlands of South Dakota and Nebraska.”
Curtis was largely self-taught in photography, but would go on to win numerous awards and become the friend and associate of the presidents, kings, titans of business and industry, and important tribal leaders throughout the Western United States and Canada.
