Edward S. Curtis - Elk Boy - Ogalala - Vintage Photogravure - Volume, 12.5 x 9.5 inches - Born 1848. At fourteen he accompanied a party under the great leader White Swan against the Apsaroke. At twenty he lead his first war-party, which met and killed thirty Apsaroke, Elk Boy himself counting two first coups in the fight. One of the Apsaroke, who were surrounded on a rocky hill, dashed out alone; Elk Boy rushed to meet him, shot him down, struck him with his gun, and scalped him. Another coming to the assistance of the Apsaroke was shot by others of the Sioux, and Elk Boy struck him as he fell. He was engaged in eleven battles against the Apsaroke, Shoshoni, Pawnee, Assiniboin, Arikara, and Ponca; fought once against the soldiers. <br> <br>Provenance: Original Subscription Set #59.
