Edward S. Curtis - Making Camp - Vintage Photogravure - Volume, 9.5 x 12.5 inches - This photo by Edward S. Curtis depicts the process involved in building a camp for the Teton Sioux. After a perfect location is selected, here a place backed with a few trees for protection, they would begin setting up. The Sioux resided mainly in tipis and these were made of large poles which were then draped with buffalo skins. The tipis would allow for smoke to exit through the top using closable flaps. <br> <br> This photogravure was taken in 1908 by Edward S. Curtis. The piece was printed on Dutch Van Gelder and is available for sale in out Aspen Art Gallery. <br> <br>Provenance: Original Subscription Set #59. George D. Barron, Rye, NY
