Edward S. Curtis - *50% OFF OPPORTUNITY* Stands First - Ogalala - Vintage Photogravure - Volume, 12.5 x 9.5 inches - Born about 1844. Distinguished himself as a young man by riding out alone to meet a single Apsaroke who charged from the enemy line. Stands First did not shoot, and received a wound in the breast; but as the two passed each other he struck the Apsaroke with his coup-stick, a feat of great honor. The following year-seemingly in 1869-two hundred Sioux attacked the Apsaroke camp near the fork of the Missouri, and in the thick of the fight Stands First was twice wounded in the back. In the battle of the Little Bighorn he captured the standard of the troops.

Provenance: Original Subscription Set #59. George D. Barron, Rye, NY
