The war-party sent scouts in advance, who kept a constant lookout for the enemy. From time to time they returned to the main party to report, and when they were sighted the warriors formed in line and chanted a song of welcome.

In this photograph by Edward S. Curtis a line of Atsina warriors waits for the scouts return. They have sent scouts out to keep a lookout for the enemy, this process is constant. When the scouts return with news the warriors line up and sing a song of welcome. Edward S. Curtis took this photogravure in 1908 and printed it on Deluxe Japanese Tissue. The image is now for sale in our Aspen art gallery.
