The composition of this photograph is interesting with the dark hill in the background creating an intersection with the triangular tipis. <br> <br>Description by Edward S. Curtis: The Atsina lived in tipis of twenty buffalo skins and twenty four poles, the latter about thirty feet in length. <br> <br>"It is believed that when a man dies he goes northward to 'Bashnobe,' the Big Sand, where he joins the spirits finds plenty of game and follows the customs and habits of their former existence. The ghosts of the dead are believed to haunt graves, to travel with the whirlwind, and to have the power of shooting invisible arrows into people." - From Edward Curtis' North American Indian
