Edward S. Curtis - Plate 610 Zuni Girls at the River - Vintage Photogravure - Portfolio, 22 x 18 inches - In this picture by Edward S. Curtis, two Zuni girls carry water on their heads. They are adorned in long brown robes and in a desert like landscape. Seemingly young, one might guess the girls area round 15 years of age. The pots they carry on their heads are quite large and painted with symbols and imagery. Walking along the river, the two girls directly face the camera. They are surrounded by a soft, misty light, almost hiding the mesa in the background.

This photogravure was taken by Edward Curtis in 1903 and printed on Japon Vellum Paper. The original vintage piece is now on display in our Aspen Art Gallery.
